After all, what’s not to love about a gang of friends on the hunt for One-Eyed Willy’s treasure? The Director Who Doesn’t Like Children It proved to be Hollywood’s seventh-biggest box-office hit of 1985 and eventually became a cult classic which sits at number 13 on Rolling Stone’s 25 greatest movies of the 1980s. They pushed through, though, gave it their all, and ultimately delivered. It’s also one of those movies that seems more fun to make than it is to watch – and it is a heck of a fun movie to watch! While some points of the production were great and would make any fan envious, the making of The Goonies wasn’t a walk in the park for either director Richard Donner or the cast of mostly inexperienced kids.
